Cool New Poll: Best Ice Cream in Orlando

It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s time to chill. Ice cream, anyone? This month’s poll asks you to choose the best ice cream shop (or frozen dessert shop, for you sticklers) in the Orlando area. Get your tongues warmed up, and the napkins ready, it can get messy eating ice cream in the hot Florida sun.

Here are the nominees based on suggestions from Eating Orlando followers on Twitter:

Cefiore, College Park
Beaches and Cream, Downtown Disney
Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, multiple area locations
Twistee Treat, Clermont
Muse Gelato, Festival Bay
Ghirardelli Soda Fountain, Downtown Disney

See the sidebar to vote, and don’t forget to leave details of why you voted the way you did in the comment section below. If there was a glaring omission, please let me know about it. The winner will be featured on the blog next month. Poll closes August 15, 2009.

Great fun, great drinks, and a great cause

If you love cocktails as much as I do, stop by your local Carrabba's Italian Grill on Thursday, July 30th, 5 to close, for a special event featuring exclusive cocktails designed by mixologist Charlotte Voisey. The event is only $15, and includes one drink and a special tasting menu. The event benefits MDA and the fight against muscular dystrophy.

Great fun, great drinks, and a great cause. I'll be there.

It's Mac Tonight!

It's been nearly impossible to escape all the coverage of the 40th anniversary of man on the moon this week. All the moon talk somehow made me remember this old spot from the eighties. Anybody else remember Mac tonight?

I'm too old to remember man on the moon but I so remember moon man at McDonalds.

Any other old restaurant commercials take you back? Please comment.

Beefy King Reigns Supreme as Best Sandwich in Orlando, According to Poll

Beefy King reigned supreme in the latest poll of Eating Orlando readers who were asked to name the best sandwich in Orlando.

No stranger to “best of” polls, Beefy King held tight to its throne with 23% of the vote, and was chosen over upstart Brianto’s Original Hoagies by six points. Three restaurants tied for third, with 16% of the vote: Earl of Sandwich, Jax 5th Ave. and Cubans on the Run. Pom Pom’s Teahouse and Sandwicheria, a few blocks down the street from Beefy King, finished sixth with 12%.

The results were the closest in Eating Orlando poll history.

As always, nominees for the poll were gathered from suggestions sent in by Eating Orlando followers on Twitter. The Best Sandwich in Orlando poll results:

Beefy King, Orlando 23%
Brianto's Original Hoagies, Avalon Park 17%
Earl of Sandwich, Downtown Disney 16%
Jax 5th Ave Deli & Ale House, College Park 16%
Cubans on the Run, Casselberry 16%

Pom Pom's Teahouse & Sandwicheria, Orlando 12%

Congratulations to Beefy King, and, as promised, my review in the next post. But once again, I have to disagree with the readers. I love Beefy King, but a recent entry into the Orlando sandwich scene has become the sole focus of my sandwich cravings. Details soon…
