Orlando Magic's Jason Smith attempts the Smokey Bones 2lb Steak Challenge

Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill recently launched its HUGE steak campaign of 2016 to promote its most savory dish to date – its gigantic 35 oz. (2+ pound!) smoked ribeye dinner.

To kick off this promotional dish nationwide, the company has selected Orlando Magic basketball player Jason Smith to come to the restaurant and devour the entire 2 pound rib eye along with its two side salads and dessert. If he finishes the meal, the company will donate $4K to his charity of choice – The Smith-Mellin scholarship http://www.plattevalley.k12.co.us/ .

The Smith-Mellin scholarship is a scholarship fund that Jason and his friend a local dentist Dr. Mellin started to give back to the kids of Platte Valley High School, in Colorado. The school then divides the money and distributes it to the students in the form of scholarships.

Smokey Bones, the favorite choice for food, drinks, and fun, is a full-service bar and fire-grill restaurant that currently operates 67 locations in 16 states and employs nearly 3,800 people. It is owned by an affiliate of Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital Partners, whose portfolio of restaurants also includes Boston Market, Friendly’s, Johnny Rockets, Bar Louie and other restaurant brands representing approximately 2,000 locations and over $2.0 billion in sales.

As two-time state player of the year and named to the All-Colorado team as a junior and senior year of high school, Jason Smith has always been a promising player and stellar athlete. He attended Colorado State University and was named the Mountain West freshman of the year and earned first team All-Mountain West following the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. In 2015 he signed to the Orlando Magic.
