Arby's Roast Burgers Quick Look

If I’m hungry and in a hurry, many times I’ll swing by a drive-thru and grab a burger and fries. Or maybe a chicken sandwich and fries. Or even a couple of tacos and a burrito. I’ve never thought to grab a roast beef sandwich and fries. At least not until I heard about Arby’s new Roast Burgers.

The new Roast Burgers are Arby’s attempt to grab a bit of this burger business for themselves. They’re promoted as burger alternatives without the grease. I was intrigued by the idea, but I found that they are just the same old roast beef sandwiches Arby’s has served for years, but with traditional burger toppings like lettuce, onions, tomato and bacon.

That’s not to say they were bad. I rather enjoyed my bacon cheddar Roast Burger ($3.59). It was served warm, with plenty of oven-baked roast beef and two, thick slices of peppered bacon. It was topped with cheddar cheese and lettuce, onions and tomato. The crisp vegetable toppings gave the sandwich a nice crunch, and the bun seemed fresh. I’m usually hungry an hour later whenever I’ve eaten at Arby’s, but the Roast Burger seemed to fill me up and satisfy my hunger.

Other Roast Burgers include the Bacon and Bleu and the All-American, kind of like Arby’s version of the Whopper.

Overall I like the concept. I think Arby’s has succeeded in producing a viable alternative to the fast food burger. The addition of the traditional burger toppings did elevate the usual bland, unexciting roast beef sandwich to something I would look forward to when hungry and in a hurry. Give them a try next time you’re thinking drive-thru.

  1. Must tell you it tasted much better than it looks in the photo. I don't stage my photos. What they serve is what you'll see.
